One of the most common questions I am asked is “what happens when we die?”
When a person dies their spirit is released free from our body and has the ability to once again move within different dimensions.
On most occasions a spirit will stay around, sometimes it’s simple curiosity, or an unexpectedly traumatic passing. Spirits normally then cross over after their funeral, wake, or celebration of life. At this time, for the most part, they are the same as if they were in human form. They have the same feelings, the same emotions - anger, depression, happiness, etc. When they see you cry over their passing, it hurts them too.
It is said our spirit has an approximate five-day window of opportunity to cross over into the next dimension, or the afterlife as we often like to call it.
In the afterlife our spirit reconnects to its Higher Self, its Spirit Guides, loved ones who went on before them, and of course our we meet our Maker. At this time the spirit is released of all the “human” feelings and can look upon their lifetime as if they were a third person. They can reflect without judgment on their own actions, and those of everyone they encountered. It is akin to watching a movie, but they truly have no emotions tied to it. They can move between realms, visit us at will, and help guide us along our path by assisting us with some of life's questions we may need guidance or answers on.
There are a few reasons why a Spirit may remain and some of it has to do with us.
As an example, I have heard that just a few hours before a loved one passes, a grieving daughter said “Dad, I need you. Please don’t leave me.” This innocent and heartbreaking request combined with a Father’s wish to remain with and watch over his Daughter tied the Spirit to this realm.
I believe this to be the most common reason spirits remain earth bound.
Other reasons are that they feel they have something they need to finish; their death was so sudden they don’t understand that they’ve died, or they simply procrastinated around after death and didn’t make it through before heaven’s door closed.
Generally, if they aren’t aware that they have died or if they just missed the boat so to speak, they’re not intending any harm. If they feel like they have unfinished business, well that’s when things can get crazy. Spirits with unfinished business, often, become disharmonious spirits.
Have you felt a spirit around you that hadn’t crossed over?
