The Solar Plexus Chakra

Solar Plexus Chakra or Manipura

Location: Upper area of the stomach, where your diaphragm is, in your solar plexus area.

Related Organs/areas of the body: Digestive System, Pancreas, the solar plexus is also responsible for regulating the metabolism

Associated Colour: Yellow

Mantra: RAM

The third Chakra relates to your self-expression and personal power. In balance, the Solar Plexus chakra has you standing solid in your own free will, your independence, self-confident and not being defined by others views of you. You will have a clear sense of direction and no problem following through. An open Solar Plexus will have you owning your beliefs. You will notice that when you stand straight and aligned, there is a positive awareness created in the solar plexus area.

In contrast, a closed or imbalanced Solar Plexus will have you dependent on others approval, experiencing possible anxiety as you have given away your personal power and have low self-esteem. At the other end of the spectrum you can become controlling, manipulative and obsessed with detail. You may experience lack of clear direction and ambition and difficulty following through. Digestive issues and problems or disease in the pancreas can be a physical manifestation of an unbalanced Manipura Chakra.

To promote balance and harmony in the solar plexus, eat a varied diet (eat the rainbow) and don't forget to include yellow fruits and vegetables. Beneficial yoga poses include; Ustrasana (Camel Pose),  Bhujangasana (Cobra pose),  Parvritta Trikonasana (revolved triangle pose), Dhanurasana (bow pose).

Positive affirmations for the Solar Plexus;

  • I am empowered/ strong/ powerful/ courageous/ confident

  • I am worthy of success/ happiness/ love…

  • I am enough......
